3.4.b. Cape Verde
The Portuguese is the official language of Cape Verde, used in all
the official and administrative documentation. It is also the language
of the radios and televisions and, more important, the language of
schools.
In the remaining situations of communication (including the
quotidian life), the Cape-Verdian Creole is used. The Cape-Verdian is
a mixture of the archaic Portuguese and African languages. The Creole
divides itself in two dialects, with some variants in pronunciation
and vocabulary: the one of the Barlavento (Windward) islands, to the
north, and the one of the Sotavento (Lee-side) islands, to the
south.
